Getting Gatsby Pearl Inspired!

Two weeks ago, Hisano and I went to see The Great Gatsby, a film set in the all-glittering jazz era of the the early 1920's. The pearl styles were amazing.

After leaving the theater we began discussing creating a group of pieces inspired by the ropes, the tassels, the bracelets ... the pearls from film.

We clearly weren't the only ones inspired by Gatsby. Hisano has been busy this past week making customized versions of pearl ropes, 100 inches and longer. The one on the left is a staggered-size version composed of round freshwater pearls. She has also designed a tassel necklace that will debut soon.

I've been busy creating my own version of the rope - something a bit more exotic using Tahitian pearls. Because the pearls are a lot larger and heavier, I am making the ropes at 50 inches instead of 100. For Tahitian pearl lovers, these are statement pieces!

Stay tuned for June! Our promotion for this year's Pearl Month is going to be all Gatsby inspired!

It takes more than 100 matched Tahitian pearls to create a 50-inch rope
